VOICES OF DRAWING - FEN DITTON GALLERY

Olly Williams

This exhibition is one not to miss. An exciting show simply pulses with colour, form and fabulous talent. Where else would you find six artists, all young and all brilliant together in one explosion of amazingly well- priced art? Only Fen Ditton Gallery has the nerve – and the skill – to recruit a whole slew of artists fresh out the Royal Drawing School. Each one has come through an élite intense one year course. Based on drawing, yet these works are mainly paintings, glorious and bold ones.” At the School” Olly Williamson explained ‘You are entirely free to go in whichever direction you want.” Yes, there is a disciplined full day everyday but these artists have free rein to say whatever they like in paint or charcoal.

Above a real triumph of the whole exhibition, Olly Williamson Dancers in the Night. a wonderfully exuberant painting, from a super talented young artist. His smaller picture of workers at the end of their shift on the South Bank is equally arresting. On his own he is an artist to view now.

Evan Evans Night Time Porch

Euran Evans magnificent oil pencil and and watercolour defies any idea this School has straitened its students. It is semi abstract and hugely appealing, to me anyway, modern art with immense skill precision and exuberance

Ellie Lonsdale

Ellie Lonsdale’s Roseland is a pastoral meditative masterpiece . It celebrates the range of these voices from the School in a quiet but thoughtful study

Felix Higham Last Orders at the Barley Mow

Felix Higham has two or three remarkable oil paintings in this exhibition, large expansive and authentic they dominate the room in a vibrant way. Figurative art is now go, as most observers must have twigged. Cool abstracts are still. fine ( I hope I have them all over my house) but the human form and face is unsurprisingly I suppose, making a comeback. Felix is in the vanguard. As is Otis Blease below with his huge striking charcoal figurative works. So brilliant and executed in such bold style, they are the coming trend

Otis Blease - 8-30 AM

Walking to Winchester Sunflowers

Agnes Treherne is an artist with a magnetic appeal, She really commands whatever landscape she lives in currently and places herself and others there too. Dreamy, fantastical, mysterious , studies of the wilderness of nature, by sea and forest, here is an artist not o be missed whose paintings even at her young age are already part of the canon.
