Euwitt with his sculptures photographed by Anne Garvey
Euwitt Nyanhongo is a superb sculptor. His work is skilled formed from the rock of his home country Zimbabwe. The stone may be cold but Euwitt is warm and open – his work is all about love, connection and hope .Spring stone is his favourite medium. Deep inside it is ebony but the exterior is a tawny rough texture. The combinatioin of the two in some of his works is awesome.
Green avocado stone is the inspirational material for a few sculptures but the Silent thoughts Rainbird , lovely green stoned Welcome with her door flung open in welcome and the iron clad Bond of Love, a break taking tour de force in ebony , intricate as it is simple.
Euwitt’s father was a sculptor and incredibly eight of his brothers and sisters have followed his calling into the world of shaping stone into sublime art. Euwitt has nineteen brothers and sisters, he has never been near an Art School he was taught in the school of family life yet his work is varied and overflows with precision and skill.
Cambridge is now home to this exceptional artist He loves the city he tells me, however with his temperament and delightful outlook on life, he would be welcome and happy anywhere.
Euewitt exhibited at the Art Space on Victoria Road this weekend, but he is more than willing to entertain private views . His prices for these frankly priceless are modest. The towering version of intertwined love sith its enigmatic finish is tops but there are many sculptures offered at far less.
